this is a repost from Facebook...

Words have power, especially when media (WHYY, FOX, CNN, the public etc.) uses them so often they become common language. Its questionable that the same people who are fast to call Haitian Survivors Looters, when the same people are ready to lose their mind when their parking spaces are taken, you are skipped in line (...supermarket or waiting for the Metro) or when

Imagine not eating for days or the stinch of death. What would you do? I would survive, how about you?

This is not a war...they are not burgulars, and they are not responsible for the Earthquake....its human survival...hmmmmmff. Lose your priviledge and be human for once. Lets approach this with sensitivity.

Looting (Verb)...
Looter (Noun)

1.spoils or plunder taken by pillaging, as in war.
2.anything taken by dishonesty, force, stealth, etc.: a burglar's loot.

Its enraging - and on top of the lives taken because of the earthquake more lives were taken because of this violently racist image - police shot and killed 'looters' hiding out in a supermarket.. A supermarket! And yes even the most 'liberal' journalists continue to use this term. What will happen once all the US marines are deployed???... (1/20/10 at 9:59am)

...And they continue to speak of Haiti's poverty without mentioning how the world's richest countries looted and burglarized them even after their Independence. After all their charity, when its said and done the (US and France ) will continue to demand Haiti pay off some imaginary debt - I mean come on W. Bush heading a fundraising committee? How absurd. I AM however encouraged that Senegal is reaching out. I can only pray that this tragedy will inspire a newfound solidarity among African Diasporic nations (1/20/10 9:59am FB)
